Lifetime cost, not unit cost
Live planting carries irrigation, maintenance contracts, replacement and — in atriums and malls — access equipment every time something needs watering or dies. Artificial planting is a capital cost with a maintenance line that is close to zero.
Compliance you can document
Fire performance is the gate most projects fail first. Live planting has no fire classification; a fire-retardant artificial specification can be documented, submitted and approved.
Design intent held exactly
Species, canopy shape, height and colour stay as drawn. Live planting grows, dies, drops leaves and shifts colour with the light — which is precisely what a designer does not want in a fixed scheme.
Available when construction runs late
Live planting has to be installed into a completed, irrigated, light-appropriate environment. Artificial trees can be installed the week the floor is finished.
